How does PrEP work?
PrEP prevents the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from multiplying, making it very difficult for transmission to occur.
Clinical trials have shown that PrEP can greatly lower the risk of getting HIV through sexual transmission when taken daily.

Do I need PrEP, how do I get it?
HQ offers HIV risk assessments and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) evaluations for service users. PrEP is recommended for individuals who occasionally have sex without a condom, are unsure of their sexual partners' HIV status, have a partner living with HIV who does not have an undetectable viral load, or use injection drugs.
HQ provides immediate access to both PrEP and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) through consultation with an on-site healthcare provider. To start PrEP, visit HQ to register via an electronic kiosk or connect with our services through the online portal.
If you're not in Toronto or need PrEP right away, visit the Ontario HIV Treatment Network’s OntarioPrEP.ca for information on accessing PrEP through a healthcare provider.
If you believe you've been exposed to HIV, go to an emergency room or consult a healthcare provider immediately about starting PEP.
